The Billericay School during the 1950s

By Sylvia Kent

During the 1950s Mr Ronald Eden became headmaster at the Billericay School.  He stayed for about six years and this picture shows some of his older pupils on last day of term.  He is pictured middle front row between Mr Walkey and Miss Norris who was head of Music.  More information to come...

Walter Walkey lived opposite to us in Harrods Farm, Outwood Common Road. I remember he hosted a coronation party in 1953

I was a student at the school from 1946-1950 my Report Book/ Leaving Certificate was signed by Mr R.H. Eden Head Master on the 31st March 1950. Wonderful memories of a fantastic staff headed up by Mr P.G."Tiggy" White. His twitchy cane was affectionately known as "Tiggy" fortunately i never felt it! Jack Knapp NSW Australia.

I was a pupil in Billericay School 1957 to 1959. This was before they lost a lot of their ground to the road construction alongside it, before the sports halls and other buildings were constructed on the playing fields, blocking the view.

From the classroom windows you had a lovely view that extended as far as Langdon Hills.

Goldwyn was Headmaster, Pat Howard was Maths, Elvis was King.

I went to Billericay school and left in 1954. I lived in South Green and married Valerie Outen in 1957. I was friends with John Mc Kenna and am still friends now. I would be pleased to hear from anybody that knew me
